For Marie & Siegfried Perl, my grandparents. Selma Heimann is my grandmother on my mother's side (photo on the right). My maternal grandfather died of a broken heart when he saw the reality of what the Germans were doing. They stole his business. One of his sons (Jean) died of a heart attack at age 35, at this time the other son (Arnim) escaped to South Africa and the third son (Max) was murdered in Auschwitz. These Stolpersteine (Stumbling Block) are in the sidewalk on a beautiful tree-lined street in front of their former home in Berlin as a memorial to them. They were murdered in Theresienstadt and Auschwitz. There is no grave for them.
